#3049 Mexican hand-painted ceramic lidded trinket bowl. 3.5” x 2”
The vibrant ceramic tradition known as Talavera de Puebla and general majolica pottery has deep roots in Mexico, particularly established during the colonial period when Spanish artisans introduced traditional glazing and firing techniques to local indigenous potters. Workshops across regions such as Dolores Hidalgo and Puebla developed distinctive regional styles characterized by thick, glossy mineral glazes and exuberant hand-painted motifs.
These small decorative lidded vessels were produced in large numbers as folk art souvenirs and everyday household trinket containers throughout the latter half of the twentieth century. Artisans typically applied each bright colour by hand using natural mineral oxides, resulting in unique variations across every individual piece that left the kiln. Such items remain popular collectible examples of traditional Latin American folk craft and domestic ceramic artistry.
