#0062 An unsigned vintage yellow art glass egg paperweight with internal bubbles.

Independent studio glass artists and commercial glassworks in Europe and North America created decorative glass paperweights. They produced these pieces during the mid-to-late twentieth century to serve as both functional desk accessories and decorative art objects. Craftsmen shaped molten glass by hand using traditional blowing and shaping techniques while incorporating metallic oxides and trapped air bubbles to achieve unique visual effects.

Collectors and office workers used these heavy glass objects on desks and tables to hold down loose papers and correspondence. They placed them near windows and lamps where light could pass through the coloured glass and highlight the internal patterns and bubbles. Over time, mass production decreased while handmade studio art glass gained appreciation as a distinct collectible art form.
