#2016 Antique cut glass salt and pepper shakers with sterling silver and mother-of-pearl tops.
4” tall. Tops are 8 grams. Small nip on base of one. Salt and pepper shakers have evolved significantly over time, from simple ceramic or wooden containers to elaborate decorative pieces. The use of cut glass became popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, particularly in Europe and America, prized for its brilliance and intricate designs. Sterling silver and mother-of-pearl were often incorporated into finer sets, adding a touch of luxury and sophistication.
These shakers, with their cut glass bodies and sterling silver and mother-of-pearl tops, are indicative of the craftsmanship from the late 19th to early 20th century. Such sets were common tableware accessories in well-appointed homes, serving both functional and decorative purposes. Their origin in Germany suggests a connection to the renowned European glassmaking traditions of that era.
