7" High Mid Century Amberina Ruby Red Crackle Glass Pitcher w/ Applied Yellow or Amber Handle
Hand blown art glass with a distinct crackle finish. "Craquelle" (Crackle) Glass-Originally invented by Venetian glassmakers in the 16th century. While the glass is glowing hot, the artisan briefly plunges the vessel into a container of ice-cold water. The sudden drop in temperature causes the outermost layer of glass to shrink rapidly and fracture into a web-like pattern, while the hotter interior remains intact. The pitcher is quickly placed back into the furnace-this will fuse and seal the cracks, ensuring the pitcher is structurally stable, water tight, and smooth to the touch on the inside. The amber applied handle is UV reactive-orange. This indicates it does contain cadmium. It has a pontil scar-indicative of a hand blown art piece. It was likely produced by Pilgrim Glass, Kanawha, Bischoff, Rainbow or Blenko Glass Company. Sometimes referred to as "Mid Century West Virginia Art Glass". The pontil has a grid-like appearance to it. The pontil was broken away from the base after the creation of the art piece. It is medium sized decorative pitcher or creamer. It is in mint condition. It measures approx 7" H, 3 3/4" W, 2 1/4" diameter at base, 14 Oz
