Antique c.1925 Little Pictorial Lives of the Saints Benziger J.G. Shea
A beautifully timeworn early-20th-century Catholic devotional book, Little Pictorial Lives of the Saints, compiled from Butler’s Lives and other approved sources by John Gilmary Shea and published by Benziger Brothers.
The book contains a brief biography and reflection for every day of the year, along with additional saints associated with special feast days in the United States. A meaningful piece of Catholic history for devotional readers, religious-book collectors or an antique faith-inspired library.
Notable Features:
- Circa 1925 Benziger Brothers edition
- Classic faded-red cloth hardcover
- Decorative black artwork on the cover and spine
- Black-and-white religious illustrations
- Holy Family frontispiece
- Includes an approbation associated with Pope Leo XIII
- Handwritten gift inscription referencing St. Catherine’s School in Anaheim, California
- No dust jacket included
Condition: This antique book is in heavily worn and fragile condition. The cloth cover has fading, staining, rubbing and considerable edge and corner wear. The spine covering is significantly split and separating from the rear board, with exposed binding material and loose, frayed fibers at the top and bottom.
Interior pages show age-toning, foxing, staining, edge wear and damage to portions of the front endpapers. The binding should be handled very gently. Please examine every photograph carefully, as the condition is a significant part of this book’s history. Sold as found and best suited for careful display, collecting, restoration or gentle devotional use.
