Antique Limoge Cabbage Rose Porcelain Plate Signed Felix Backstamped
Antique Limoges France Flambeau Plate Signed Felix Pink Cabbage Roses Gold edge. This stunning antique hand-painted porcelain cabinet plate features a lush central bouquet of pink cabbage roses with scalloped gilded edges, reminiscent of fine Limoges or Austro-German Victorian decorative porcelain from the early 1900s. This backstamp identifies this lively porcelain cabinet plate as an authentic piece of French Limoges porcelain, produced and imported between 1890 and 1914. Deciphering the Backstamp: The Torch Design: Known as the "Flambeau" (torch) mark, this was a specific trademark utilized by a decorating studio or factory line in the Limoges region of France."LDBC" Designation: This stands for L.D. Bloch & Company, a prominent New York City-based importer active around the turn of the 20th century. They contracted directly with French porcelain manufacturers to produce fine tableware and decorative plates specifically for the American market."Hand Painted" Stamp: This confirms that the beautiful pink cabbage roses on the front were painted by hand by a studio artisan rather than being applied via a mass-produced transfer decal. The presence of the "France" country-of-origin mark aligns perfectly with the McKinley Tariff Act requirements of 1890, dating this heirloom directly to the height of the Victorian or Art Nouveau eras. The clear, close-up image confirms that this plate was decorated by Felix, a recognized studio artist who hand-painted porcelain pieces for high-end decorating lines. Having this verified signature raises the estimated collector value. The fluid, cursive script written in dark reddish-brown ink is typical of factory and studio decorators from the Limoges region active between 1890 and 1914. Artists like Felix were highly skilled at rendering soft, layered petals on cabbage roses using specialized porcelain pigments that blended during firing. Excellent condition, no problems, measures approximately 13 inches across. This plate is a rare find and would be a welcome addition for the collector who wants a clear backstamp plus an artists signature.
