Antique Messina Cauldon England Flow Blue-9 1/2" Diameter Dinner Plate
Perfect for use while decorating....That cobalt blue adds the POP! These were produced at the Cauldon Place Works in Stoke-On-Trent, Staffordshire, Eng. Produced during the Victorian & Edwardian periods, most examples found today date between 1890 - 1910. There is a detailed rectangular and diamond, Messina, separates the 2 geometrical shape, backstamp on the back. The "Flow" Effect is a distinctive look created by adding volatile chemicals-such as lime or ammonia to the kiln during firing which causes the cobalt blue transferware glaze to intentionally blur and bleed into the white porcelain or ceramic background. There is also a symbol (unable to identify) imprinted into the back of the piece. This is the Potter's ID. Workers were paid per piece and a stamped initial or number id'd the specific artisan. This was imprinted prior to firing. This was also used as a quality assurance tool. This plate features a distinct blue & white floral transferware design w/ scalloped and embossed rim. This plate is in mint condition. It has no scratching from utensils, chips, cracks or call outs. It measures approx 9 1/2" Diameter, 1 1/2"H, 1 Lb
