Chinese Blue and White Porcelain Cups with A Qianlong Reign Mark Qing Dynasty
Blue and white porcelain has a rich history originating in China, with its peak production occurring during the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. The cobalt blue pigment, imported from Persia, was applied under the glaze and fired at high temperatures, creating a durable and vibrant decoration. These wares were highly prized both domestically and internationally, influencing ceramic traditions worldwide.
This particular piece features a blue underglaze mark, which often indicates the reign period of the emperor under whom it was made. While the mark suggests a possible connection to the Qianlong era (1736-1795), such marks are also frequently used on later reproductions or pieces made in imitation of the imperial style. The decorative motifs, common in Chinese art, further place its origin within this cultural context.
