Cobalt Blue, 5", Split Tail Hen on Nest Covered Dish

This is a classic piece of Americana and it serves well as a decorative candy dish, trinket box, or kitchen accent piece. These were produced by Mid Century American Glass Companies. This particular piece I have not been able to find a makers mark. Popular manufacturers included: Westmoreland Glass Co., Indiana Glass Co., L E Smith Glass Co., Imperial Glass Co. Some of the seams feel rough but it is not flea bites. However, there is a flea bite on the inside rim of the dish. I believe this may be a L.E. Smith and it does have iridescence in bright light. It has a basketweave bottom with a double twist braid around the rim. On top the hen is very detailed and textured. Feathers, face, comb, tail and the rim are also nicely detailed. She even has eggs tucked partially under her! She does have the highly desired split tail-which typically make these pieces more valuable. She measures approx 5" H, 6"W, 5" deep, 1 Pound 10 Oz.
