Hungarian Folk Puzzle Pitcher, Trick Jug or Fuddling Cup, Artist Signed, 4.5" Tall
This is a Folk Reticulated Puzzle Pitcher, also known as a honey pot, originating from Hungary. It is a type of pottery designed as a game or a test of skill. The pitcher is characterized by a network of holes or reticulations and an inscription, typically a rhyme or saying in Hungarian. The challenge is to drink from the pitcher without spilling any liquid. This is achieved by covering all the holes except one, and then drinking from the spout. The inscription on the pitcher in the image reads "tartogatok baramat igyad meg," which translates to "I keep my friend, you drink me." These pitchers were often given as gifts or used during celebrations.
