It depicts Ardhanarishvara, the androgynous composite form of the Hindu god Shiva and his consort Parvati, standing on his mount, the bull Nandi. The male right side features matted locks (jatamukuta) and holds an axe, while the female left side wears a jeweled crown and a long skirt. The figure is encircled by a large trishul (trident), the primary weapon of Shiva. Bonus fact! This antique item is part of the collection at the Cleveland Museum of Art here where I live!
