Vintage MCM ROBERT MAXWELL POTTERY CRAFT Rustic Earth Bands Stoneware PLANTER
Vintage MCM ROBERT MAXWELL POTTERY CRAFT Rustic Earth Bands Stoneware PLANTER • Handcrafted stoneware, red clay • Hand painted, glazed • MCM, rustic, earthy design • White with rust / brown bands • 3 holes along top rim to hang from • Original foil sticker on base: - "Pottery Craft, compton, cal. 90222, handcrafted stoneware" ~~ Additional Info ~~ • "Pottery Craft" of Compton, California was a division of Treasure Craft for a few years during the early 1970's. * Per Robert Maxwell Ceramics website: http://www.robertmaxwellceramics.net/1a_HistoryChronology2.html In 1969, Al Levin of Treasure Craft of Compton approached Robert Maxwell with an ill-fated business proposition. Because the Venice quarters had become rather confining by then, the plan to purportedly unite his growing stoneware business with Levin's considerable pottery establishment (as a separate division that later became known as Pottery Craft) was agreed to. Unfortunately the partnership soon soured as Levin demanded more and more control over the Maxwell operation. It is now believed that the sole reason for the merger was to acquire his working knowledge, clay body, glazes, glazing style, and master molds although the latter were evidently never used. ** MEASUREMENTS ** • Weight: 13 oz • 3" diameter top • 5" diameter body • 3¼" tall ** CONDITION DETAILS ** • EXCELLENT, LIKE NEW, previously owned condition • One "popped clay bubble" on top rim, under glaze, as shown in photos. NOT a chip! • Minor age-related wear • No chips, cracks, crazing, or other damage noted
