Vintage NOS 1970s Bamboo Slat Box Purse Industrial Lighthouse Tapestry Green/Amber/ Burgandy 9” x 4”
Discover a stunning piece of history with this deadstock/NOS (New Old Stock) vintage 1970 beautifully blending mid-century novelty charm with a bohemian aesthetic, this bag is constructed with flexible bamboo/slat-wood wrapped around a sturdy, structured wood frame. The exterior panels feature a wrap-around woven textile tapestry uniquely depicting an industrial-nautical scene complete with vintage water towers, lighthouses, and structural architecture. The top edges are detailed on both sides with a sage-green braided passementerie trim, which holds a fringe of 19 teardrop-shaped faceted Lucite acrylic beads in alternating tones of amber, soft pink, and pale green. The interior is beautifully minimalist and clean, completely unlined to highlight the raw natural wood and the reverse weave of the tapestry panel. A single small, unlined matching tapestry slip pocket is integrated on one side for small items. The top features dual wicker/rattan-wrapped top handles secured to the frame via sturdy metal eyelets and a central antique-bronze finished swing hook latch that securely locks the bag closed. Completely unbranded, this purse was likely a premium boutique import from East Asia during the height of the 1970s tropical/boho novelty bag trend. Condition: New Old Stock (NOS)This bag is entirely unworn deadstock merchandise. The exterior wood finish is glossy, smooth, and free of cracks. The Lucite beads are 100% complete with no missing pieces or chips, and the metal hardware functions flawlessly. It doesn’t stand straight up, it sits at an angle, as seen in pictures. Manufacturing Note: Please note that like many unbranded novelty bags of this era, the outer fabric edge was left raw and unhemmed by the factory right next to the bamboo slat. It is completely clean, stable, and intact, but is a characteristic of its original 1970s manufacturing and should be handled with standard care.
