~~ ADDITIONAL INFO ~~
Stan Langtwait (1913 - 1984)
While working as a logger, Stan Langtwait had a habit of molding bird and animal figures out of mud and clay. He then placed these figures on tree stumps to dry, and collected them at the end of the day.
In the 1950's, Langtwait began his pottery "empire" known as "Shapes of Clay", at his factory in Graham, Washington.
After the eruption of Mount St. Helens in 1980, Stan began to incorporate ash from the mountain into the locally sourced clay used in his statues.
Stanley Langtwait died on December 29, 1984, in Eatonville, Washington.
While some sources incorrectly state he died in 1980, genealogical records and obituaries confirm his death occurred in 1984 at age 71.
This timeline clarifies that Langtwait was alive to incorporate Mount St. Helens volcanic ash into his pottery after the 1980 eruption, prior to the company being sold, as the business continued production until his passing.
Following his death in 1984, the company was sold to a business in Springfield, Oregon.
