"Wilde Tiere im Film" (Wild Animals in Film) 1925 Printers Proof Framed Ephemera 9”H 7”W Germany
The litho was designed by renowned German graphic artist Ludwig Hohlwein for the publisher Dieck und Co. Joseph Delmont was an Austrian director known for using dangerous animals in his films, and this artwork reflects his cinematic style. Beautiful piece, very collectible! Frame is in ok condition, totally usable and can be hung. The Author: The book was written by Joseph Delmont (born Karl Pick, 1873–1935), a pioneering Austrian-born filmmaker, director (Regisseur), and writer. Before becoming one of the earliest action film directors in Germany, Delmont worked globally as a trapper and wild animal trainer. The Artist: The iconic graphic artwork featuring a director aiming his camera at a yawning hippopotamus was designed by Ludwig Hohlwein, one of the most celebrated and influential German poster artists and lithographers of the early 20th century. The Book: Published in 1925 by Dieck & Co. in Stuttgart, the book detailed Delmont's adventurous first-hand experiences using live wild animals on film sets. It became highly successful and went through 14 editions.
